Mexico: Authorities set terms of TV auction

 |  April 16, 2014

Mexico’s telecommunications regulator has set a minimum price bid for companies looking to acquire two free-to-air television channels that will be auctioned off as authorities look to boost competition in the telco market.

Reports say a $63.37 million minimum bit was set by the IFT, the regulatory body that outlined the bidding process for the channels last month.

The government is hoping that the two new networks will help break the dominance of the nation’s two largest broadcasters, TV Azteca and Televisa; reports say the two control a combined 95 percent of the broadcast market.
