Mexico: IFT sets guidelines for América Móvil Internet Services

 |  July 11, 2017

Mexico’s Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) has published guidelines that establish the terms and conditions that América Móvil must comply with in order to have a physical presence at the Internet Traffic Exchange Points (IXP), ensuring the services will be of higher quality, more affordable, stable and fast.

Carlos Slim’s America Móvil, which the Federal Telecommunications Institute (IFT) determined in 2014 to be dominant in its sector, should enter into agreements that allow Internet service providers to exchange internal traffic more efficiently and at lower expense.

The guidelines were submitted for public consultation from September 6 to October 18, 2016, and were prepared based on recommendations and best international practices, the regulator said in a statement.
