Mexico: Regulator to charge for merger notifications

Starting this year, Mexico’s competition regulator COFECE will charge a fee to companies wishing to notify the agency of proposed mergers.

According to the competition regulator’s monthly report, the Federal Economic Competition Law (LFCE) specifies a threshold for mergers which must be notified to COFECE before taking place, with a fee set at $160,000 pesos ($10,000 US approx.)

“Income from the collection of fees referred to in the previous article will be destined to run the Federal Economic Competition Commission”, concluded the agency.
