Ministry of Commerce places conditions on Western Digital’s acquisition of Hitachi GST
China’s Ministry of Commerce has conditionally approved Western Digital’s proposed acquisition of Hitachi Global Storage Technologies. The conditions require Hitachi GST to operate independently for at least two years after the deal, including aspects of production, R&D, and sales. The Ministry of Commerce cited concerns with market concentration, as did the FTC in its proposed settlement for Western Digital.
