The head of the Netherlands’ competition authority, Chris Fonteijn, will leave office on May 1. He announced this on Monday, January 8, during his New Year’s speech.
In his own words, Fonteijn wants to find a new challenge. “That works best outside the ACM,” according to him.
Fonteijn started in 2005 as the the head of the telecom watchdog Opta, and in 2011 he became chairman of the Dutch Competition Authority (NMa).
In 2013, these two organizations merged with the Consumer Authority to form the ACM, which is celebrating its first lustrum this year. “That is a good time to say goodbye,” says Fonteijn.
