Netherlands: Pay-for-delay fines to hit J&J, Novartis next month

According to unnamed sources, the European Commission will likely issue fines to pharmaceutical firms Johnson & Johnson and Novartis as early as next month for their participation in a pay-for-delay scheme.

    Reports say the companies were found to have blocked the sale of a generic form of a painkiller within the Netherlands, according to sources, though the Commission will officially announce their decision next month, they said.

    The sanctions would mark the second time this year the Commission cracked down on pay-for-delay schemes. Last June, nine companies, including Lundbeck, were sanctioned for a similar scheme.

    The Commission declined to comment on the progress of this particular case.
