Dutch competition regulator ACM has reportedly told the European Commission that it would like jurisdiction over the merger review of Liberty Global’s acquisition bid for cable operator Ziggo, say reports.
The $13.8 billion buyout will only affect the market in the Netherlands, ACM said.
The deal was struck as US-based cable firm Liberty Global looks to boost its presence within the EU. While the deal will only affect the Dutch market, reports say the Commission is likely to reject ACM’s request to review the deal so as to reinforce a consistent merger policy on the EU level.
The Commission is currently in the midst of reviewing additional telco deals regarding Telefonica buyouts in Ireland and Germany.
The ACM filed its request late Tuesday, according to reports.
