New Zealand: Ahead of anti-cartel law, regs want markets to get schooled on antitrust

As Parliament plans to pass an anti-cartel bill next year, if not later this year, reports say officials are urging companies to get educated in competition law as the new legislation criminalizes cartels and serves offenders with jail sentences. The Commerce (Cartels and Other Matters) Amendment Bill covers price-fixing, market allocation and the restriction of output and requires a jail sentence of up to seven years for those found guilty of participating in a cartel. The Commerce Commission is gearing up to bring cartel cases under the new law, say reports.
