OFT reluctant to confirm Facebook’s new friend, Instagram

Facebook’s proposed acquisition of Instagram is being investigated by the U.K. Office of Fair Trading (OFT). The OFT is concerned that Facebook may restrict uploads from Instagram to other sites, or restrict competing photography apps from uploading to Facebook. However, the OFT first must determine if it has jurisdiction over the deal. The U.S. Federal Trade Commission is also looking into the acquisition.

    The OFT has asked for public comment on the deal by July 5. A decision will be reached by August 23.
