Peru: Five indicted over Lima subway contract bribery

 |  January 31, 2017

Mariella Janette Huerta, the former president of the committee in charge of the bidding process for the construction of section 2 of the Lima metro train system, has become the fifth person to be indicted over a growing bribery scandal, where Brazilian construction Oderbrecht stands accused of bribing officials in its bid to secure the lucrative contract.

Lima district attorney Hamilton Castro announced his office has found documents that would tie Ms. Huerta to the payment of bribes the company would have dished out in order to secure building contracts for the first route of Lima’s metro system.

The judge’s arrest order was issued on behalf of the Public Ministry after vital evidence was discovered during raids carried out on the home of former Communications Vice-Minister Jorge Luis Cuba. The document includes the names of several figures who benefited from an offshore account created to receive Oderbrecht’s hefty bribes.
