Philips Settles Copyright Claims From Antitrust Suit

 |  May 26, 2021

Philips North America settled its copyright and trade secrets claims against a medical equipment maintenance company, Summit Imaging, after a Washington state federal court tossed Summit’s antitrust claims.

Philips had accused Summit of hacking its ultrasound equipment’s systems to enable features Philips customers hadn’t paid for. Summit responded by claiming Philips illegally monopolized the maintenance market by refusing access to its machines.

The US District Court for the Western District of Washington dismissed Summit’s antitrust claims in November.

In 2020 Philips sued Summit Imaging for alleged copyright infringement and trade secret misappropriation, among other things, claiming that Summit hacked its systems to enable features that Philips customers hadn’t paid for.
