Romania: Authorities recommending fines for retail industry

Following an investigation into the retail market by the Competition Authority, reports say Romanian officials are now recommending fines for some of the nation’s largest chains.

    The Authority targeted Metro, Rewe, Mega Image, Interex and their suppliers in its investigation, say reports. The watchdog found evidence of unfair vertical arrangements, though reports did not elaborate on exactly what behavior the companies are accused of conducting.

    Hearings will begin at the end of October and the Authority is looking to finalize the case by the end of the year, say reports.

    The companies are facing fines of up to 4 percent of their annual turnover.
