Romania To Probe Hidroelectrica’s Wind Farm Takeover

Romania’s competition authority said on Tuesday that it will look into the agreed takeover of the 108 MW Crucea wind farm by majority state-owned hydro power producer Hidroelectrica.

    In order to determine whether the concentration is compatible with a normal competitive environment, the Competition Council will consider the notified transaction under the merger regulation, it said in a statement.

    The deal was jointly announced by German energy group STEAG, the owner of the wind farm, and Hidroelectrica at the end of December. Under the agreement, Hidroelectrica will acquire STEAG’s shares in Romanian subsidiaries Crucea Wind Farm and STEAG Energie Romania.
