The approval follows an investigation launched in June, when regulators examined VRS Romania’s plan to purchase the remaining 25% of Travertec. Per SeeNews, the Romanian unit of Austria’s voestalpine Group already controlled a 75% stake and will now become the sole owner. The stake is being acquired from German company PCM RailOne, which specializes in concrete sleeper and track system production for both urban transit and long-distance rail projects.

VRS Romania is active in the manufacture of railway components, including switches, level crossings, fastening systems, and locking devices. Travertec, on the other hand, produces prestressed reinforced concrete sleepers used in rail infrastructure. According to SeeNews, the merger consolidates voestalpine’s presence in the Romanian rail sector, combining expertise in track components with sleeper production to strengthen its local operations.
