Russia’s Federal Arbitration Court of the Moscow District has reportedly backed the nation’s Federal Antimonopoly Service in its decision against Russian Railways OJSC, which found the company to have violated competition law, according to the FAS.
The FAS had previously found that Russian Railways’ anticompetitive conduct reduced the availability of service and doubled the costs of freight car services, say reports. Transportation costs increased by 30 percent, the regulator found.
Russian Railways became the target of an FAS investigation following complaints that the rail freight company refused to fulfill transport freight contacts due to a lack of cars, the transporter said.
The company holds a natural monopoly, according to reports.
