 |  September 4, 2023
Russia has cracked down on online giants, hitting two internet companies with hefty fines for failing to localize their data. Match Group, which runs the popular dating app Tinder, and streaming service Twitch were fined 10 million and 13 million rubles respectively.
“Data localization helps to protect the interests of our citizens, strengthens the sovereignty of the state in the digital space,” said Russia’s telecommunications watchdog, Roscomnadzor. Match Group expressed regret over the ruling and said it was working to comply with Russian law. Twitch said it was ” studying the resolution of the Russian court.”
