Singapore: Modeling agencies see price-fixing fine reductions

The Competition Commission of Singapore has decided to reduce fines issued to five of 11 modeling agencies based in the country who were found to have colluded to fix prices in 2011. The five whose fines will be reduced had appealed their penalizations after the Commission found that the agencies had collectively raised the rates of modeling services. But the agencies argued their pricing policies followed the guidelines of the Association of Modeling Industry Professionals. The Commission found that association to be a “front” for the price-fixing, and eventually found that the pricing practices negatively affected customers including publishers, photographers and fashion labels. The regulator first launched an investigation in 2009.
