South Africa: Telkom moves forward with BCX buy

South Africa’s largest fixed line operator, Telkom, has reportedly been cleared by multiple jurisdictions to acquire IT solutions firm Business Connexion, known as BCX, in a $245.5 million deal.

    Reports say the Namibian Competition Commission and Tanzania’s Fair Competition Commission have both unconditionally cleared the merger plans. BCX said the firms are still awaiting on approval from South Africa’s Competition Commission, however.

    Several other authorities must also sign off on the deal, including regional regulator the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa Commission.
