Spain Gets a New Head Of Competition

Spanish jurist Cani Fernández will be proposed by the government to preside over the National Commission of Markets and Competition (CNMC) to replace José María Marín Quemada, whose tenure ended past September.

    The Spanish government will also propose the replacement of the four members whose mandate has expired. The Council of Ministers is expected to approve the proposal of the Ministry of Economy to start the pending renovation in the institution.

    Cani Fernández, 57, is a prestigious lawyer who is an expert in community law. She was a historian of the Cuatrecasas law firm – she became the firm’s second oldest partner – where she dealt with Competition matters. 

    Last February she requested a leave of absence to join the Government Presidency Cabinet in La Moncloa at the hands of Iván Redondo.
