Spain’s CNMC has approved a series of fines on media companies Mediaset and Atresmedia, citing several breaches of Spain’s broadcasting laws concerning advertising and publicity content. The fines amount to over 300,000 euros.
Atresmedia was charged with 2 different charges related to their presentation and broadcasting of advertising content, including a 28,855 euro fine for exceeding the allowed hourly advertising rate (12 minutes per hour) on it’s ‘La Sexta’ network. A larger fine, closer to 137,000 euros, was also included due to their use of super-imposed advertising and the mixing of editorial and advertising formats.
Mediaset, meanwhile, was slapped with a 131,000 euro fine for similar reasons, citing super-imposed advertising and the blurring of editorial and advertising content. The companies will be allowed to appeal the decision before the National Assembly within the next two months.
