Spain: State post service ‘Correos’ leading on-line deliveries with 46% of market

 |  December 20, 2016

Spain’s official postal service, Correos, has come out as the leader in delivery services for citizens making online purchases, with 45.8% of the market. This was revealed by the CNMC’s recent report on the sector.

The competition watchdog’s analysis also shows that Correos lost 1.5% of its market share for traditional post, with 90% of the market in terms of sales.

The CNMC’s report shows Correos as the hardest hit by the fall in traditional mailing last year, with an overall dip of 4% in total postal activity, with only 3.5 billion parcels sent and causing a 2% drop in profits for the industry.

“The rise of new technologies, and particularly the rapid growth of e-commerce, has caused an accelerated change in the sector, with the arrival of new companies and the diversification of industrial goods transportation companies towards this sector” remarks the CNMC’s report.
