Sweden: Probe into online train ticket sale discrimination dropped

Swiss regulators dealt a blow to train operator MTR when the nation’s competition regulators decided to end its investigation into claims that an MTR rival is unfairly blocking the operator from being able to sell tickets on its website.

MTR had originally filed a complaint with Sweden’s competition regulator FCA alleging that state-owned operator SJ unfairly blocked MTR from selling its Express service tickets on the SJ site. SJ, which offers train ticket sales for other operators, said it would not post ticket sales for operators that are in direct competition with its own routes.

MTR Express’s planned route between Stockholm and Gothenburg directly competes with SJ, reports say.

But the FCA has dropped its investigation into the matter. In a statement, MTR slammed the authority’s decision as one of “error.”
