Switzerland/Canada: World’s top watchmaker makes luxury diamond purchase

The world’s largest watch company, Switzerland-based Swatch, has acquired luxury diamond brand Harry Winston, the watchmaker announced Tuesday. Harry Winston announced the sale of its luxury retail division for $750 million plus up to $250 million in debt. Harry Winston Diamond Corp., the product of Canadian miner corporation Aber Corp.’s purchase of the retail business, owns major stakes in Canadian diamond mines. The company will now operate under the name of Dominion Diamond Corp. as Swatch now controls the Harry Winston brand name.
