Switzerland: Communications co takes majority stake over rights holder

 |  May 6, 2013

Communications company Swisscom has increased its stake in premium rights holder Cinetrade from 49 percent to 75 percent. The deal was announced in a statement by Swisscom, which assured that the deal offers more viewing content to customers for both pay and free television. According to the telco, consumers now have four-to-six as many football matches to watch on TV. According to a statement, the two will continue to operate independently and Cinetrade will not be integrated into its buyer. Switzerland’s Competition Commission had originally approved of Swisscom’s first acquisition in Cinetrade back in 2005; in 2011, the regulator noted that a majority acquisition in Cinetrade did not need to be reported to antitrust officials.
