Switzerland: Telco rivals clash in business Internet services

Switzerland’s competition watchdog announced the start of an investigation into Swisscom, a telecommunications company that provides Internet for businesses, after receiving complaints from its rival Sunrise claimed the company was abusing its dominant position. Competition regulator WEKO announced the investigation Friday after finding evidence that the complaints against Swisscom may have merit, though WEKO did not go into detail as to what evidence it has. Complaints alleged that Swisscom fixed Internet cables for a government tender to a point that they were unaffordable to competing Internet providers. The price-fixing involved a tender to provide Internet to the nation’s post offices. Sunrise reportedly filed its complaint in 2009.
