Switzerland: Watchdog issues merger block

The competition committee (Weko) forbade the merger of the two largest ticket vendors in Switzerland this week. Ticketcorner and Starticket had announced their merger in October 2016.

    Ticketcorner, half of which is owned by the Swiss media group Ringier and the other half by the German event and ticket group CTS Eventim, has a market share of around 60%. Starticket is part of the Tamedia Media Group and, according to the 2016 Ticketing Yearbook, sells approximately 35% of tickets in Switzerland.

    According to the Weko between 15.5 and 20 million tickets are sold per year.
