Based in Silicon Valley, Chatterjee is set to join King & Spalding’s business litigation division, where he will take on a leadership role as co-head of the intellectual property team. Per a Reuters report, Chatterjee’s move marks a shift within the legal tech space, underscoring his influence and expertise in high-profile technology cases.

Chatterjee gained additional attention earlier this year for his efforts in organizing resistance among law firm partners against former U.S. President Donald Trump’s policies that targeted the legal sector. In April, he helped establish Law Firm Partners United, a nonprofit association that has grown to over 800 members representing the 200 largest U.S. law firms by revenue, according to Reuters.

This organization has played an active role in defending the legal industry by filing friend-of-the-court briefs supporting firms such as Susman Godfrey and Jenner & Block in their legal challenges to Trump’s executive orders. Those orders were ultimately blocked permanently by federal courts. Furthermore, Law Firm Partners United supported attorney Mark Zaid in a lawsuit opposing the Trump administration’s decision to revoke his security clearance. Zaid had represented a government whistleblower involved in the case that contributed to Trump’s first impeachment.

Though Chatterjee has yet to comment publicly on his new appointment, a spokesperson for Goodwin Procter expressed appreciation for his contributions during his tenure. Chatterjee joined Goodwin in 2017 and previously served on its executive committee.

Among his legal achievements, Chatterjee represented Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg in the well-known dispute with former Harvard classmates Cameron and Tyler Winklevoss—a conflict famously depicted in the 2010 film The Social Network. His client list also includes former Google engineer Anthony Levandowski, along with tech giants NVIDIA, eBay, and Logitech, as noted by King & Spalding.
