U.S.: Energy co. acquires power plants despite antitrust investigation

In the midst of an antitrust investigation into Entergy, the Justice Department has allowed the enterprise to buy two power plants from KGen Power Corp. for $523 million. The company, based in New Orleans, wants to purchase the plants based in Jackson, Mississippi and Malvern, Arkansas. While Entergy expects the deal to be complete by the end of the year, the Justice Department emphasized that for their investigation to end, the company will need to follow-through with a proposal to sell long-distance power lines to ITC Holdings Corp after joining MISO, the area’s electric distributor, to remedy competition concerns.
