U.S.: Ontario city council prepared to bring antitrust case against LAX if negotiations fail

According to reports, one Ontario, California city councilman who is currently taking part in ongoing negotiations over the transfer of control of L.A./Ontario International Airport says that the council is prepared to file an antitrust suit against the city of Los Angeles if negotiations fail. Councilman Alan Wapner noted that an “amicable resolution” is preferable, but says the council is not out-ruling a lawsuit to settle disagreements over Ontario airport’s management in Ontario’s attempts to transfer management locally from L.A. Wapner says that an antitrust suit would stem from Los Angeles Airport’s alleged attempts to control competition, as the L.A. City Council had agreed to begin ownership negotiations over ONT as long as ONT did not become a direct competitor to LAX.
