Uganda: Revenue authority gathers to warn against cartels

    The URA gathered Friday at the URA Suppliers’ Integrity Forum where the regulatory head Michael Otonga, of the Commissioner General’s office, warned suppliers against cartel behavior. Assistant Commissioner Administration Richard Kariisa noted at the event that suppliers were colluding to rig predetermined winners of URA tenders, as well as other anticompetitive behavior.

    According to Kariisa, the result of such collusion is commodities at up to twice the original price.

    The theme of the meeting was “transparency,” say reports.
