The Office of Fair Trading has reportedly received a protesting letter from P&O Ferries, one of the largest ferry operators in the region, over Eurotunnel’s plans to take over French ports Calais and Boulogne, arguing that the deal will significantly lessen competition within shortsea services between the UK and France. Helen Deeble, who serves as both the chief executive of P&O as well as resident of the UK Chamber of Chipping, has spearheaded the argument against Eurotunnel. According to P&O, if the transaction were to be successful, Eurotunnel would control more than 25 percent of France-based French seaport services.
