UK: OFT digs into mining buyout of Scottish coal co

The Office of Fair Trading announced Thursday an investigation into the already competed buyout of Scottish Resources Group by mining company Hargreaves Services. The acquisition, made for more than $13 million, potentially poses a threat to competition in the industry. The OFT will first look into whether the deal should have been notified to the regulator under the Enterprise Act 2002. If so, the watchdog will evaluate the competitive effects of the merger. Further information was not disclosed by the OFT.
