UK: Radio co fights back against Commission’s initial findings concerning merger
The UK Competition Commission has reportedly released its opinion that an acquisition of GMG by Global Radio will significantly lessen competition; now, Global Radio has responded. Global has issued a statement that it has seen “irrefutable evidence” that the merger will not lead to a significant lessening of competition within the sector, like the Competition Commission ha found. Further, Global claims that the merger will actually lead to “significant benefits.” Ad in response to authoritative objections to the merger, the company has reportedly hired “leading third party economists” to assess the deal and its effects on competition. The Commission’s official report is due in May of this year. GMG is now known as Real and Smooth Limited.
