UK: TransAlta says price-fixing claims don’t ‘hold water’

 |  February 12, 2015

TransAlta says allegations it broke the rules by manipulating electricity prices in Canada’s only fully deregulated electricity market are unfounded.

In closing written arguments to the Alberta Utilities Commission this week, the Calgary-based utility denies its actions constituted anti-competitive behaviour.

“On its face, TransAlta’s conduct would not attract any anti-trust scrutiny under the Competition Act in Canada … or the laws of other jurisdictions, given TransAlta’s low market share and the absence of any exclusionary, predatory or disciplinary behaviour,” it says in a 224-page argument filed Tuesday.
