United Arab Emirates: Etihad Airways plans to build strength in market

The United Arab Emirates’ airline Etihad Airways has announced plans to expand in the U.S. in the next five years. Etihad Airways president James Hogan told the press he hopes the company to reach up to six U.S. cities in the coming years, though noted that he plans to achieve the growth through codeshare agreements rather than alliances with other airlines. A codeshare agreement is an agreement between two airlines to use the same flight, thus tickets can be sold under two airlines for the same trip made by one of those airlines. Hogan says the codeshare agreements would use Etihad planes.
