 |  May 19, 2015

Rosario’s Chamber of Commerce released a study which reveals that market concentration Uruguay’s farming industry has steadily increased. From 1990 to 2011 over 10,000 farming enterprises have been dissolved or absorbed by competitors.

“We can see a steady drop in the number of enterprises, along with an increase in the average acreage being exploited” said Julio Calzada, the report’s lead author.

The number of companies in the farming sector shrunk from 54,816 to 44,781 in 2011, while the average surface area exploited by each has increased from 234 hectares in 1980 to 365 in 2011.
