According to data provider Dealogic, merger deals within the nation’s wireless sector have already been proposed for a total of $49 billion worth of transactions so far this year; the number is staggering, considering 2012’s transactions worth amounted to $53 billion for the entire year. According to analysts, it’s a trend that may changed the industry forever as many bids aim to lift up smaller competitors against the leaders Verizon Wireless and AT&T. Most recently, Sprint Nextel has become the target of acquisition as DISH Network announced a $25.5 billion bid to buy the wireless company, hoping to top Japan’s SoftBank’s offer for just over $20 billion.
