US: Broadcasting acquisition to affect 3.4% of US TV households

A merger has been announced that would result in Sinclair Broadcast Group, Inc.’s acquisition of 18 television stations. The deal would also give Sinclair ability to operate or provide sales services to an additional six stations, totaling about 3.4 percent of US televisions. Sinclair would buy the assets for $370 million from Barrington Broadcasting Group, LLP. The deal remains subject to approval by authorities, including the Federal Communications Commission, though the parties expect to close the deal within the year’s second quarter.
