Cadwalader, Wickersham & Taft announced on Monday, September 18, that it has strengthened its antitrust practice with the addition of former Federal Trade Commission (FTC) attorney Bilal Sayyed in Washington, DC. Sayyed joins the firm from McDermott Will & Emery.
Sayyed regularly advises clients before the Federal Trade Commission and Department of Justice on significant merger, civil and criminal antitrust matters. A significant portion of his practice involves representing investment funds on antitrust and, in particular, Hart-Scott-Rodino Act compliance matters. Sayyed also represents clients before the FTC in consumer protection investigations.
From 2001-2004, Sayyed served as Attorney Advisor to the Chairman of the FTC. During his time at the FTC, he advised the Chairman on competition-related issues across a wide spectrum of industries, including chemical and mining, petroleum and natural gas, healthcare and pharmaceutical, defense and transportation, gaming, various consumer products and retail operations, and professional associations and standard setting organizations.
“Bilal is a well-known, industry leader in the antitrust space,” said Cadwalader managing partner Pat Quinn. “He brings to our firm considerable experience and outstanding expertise in advising corporate and litigation clients on significant antitrust merger and litigation matters.”
