US: Democrats release party antitrust agenda

On July 24, congressional Democrats revealed their current antitrust agenda. The agenda shows that the Democratic party wants to target big companies and indicates what the party’s moves could be if it wins either the Senate or the House of Representatives.

    The plan calls for large companies to show the benefits of mergers or acquisitions for consumers and asks for changes in merger standards and calls for regulators to investigate how a merger would effect jobs and wages.

    George Mason University professor, James Cooper, says that the agenda would likely need changes to US antitrust laws in order to be accomplished, including amendments to both the Sherman and the Clayton Acts.
