US: DOJ issues record antitrust fines for FY2012

Financial records have shown that the US Department of Justice antitrust division issued more antitrust fines than ever for fiscal year 2012. Reports say the Division obtained more than $1.13 billion in criminal fines, a value that has never before been reached in the 122-year history of the regulator. Eighty-six percent of that record-setting figure belongs to two sanctions issued by the DOJ that also hit their own records: A $470 million fine was issued to Yazaki Corporation in January, and a $500 million fine was issued to AU Optronics last September.
