The US Department of Justice has reportedly proposed a settlement with data cruncher Bazaarvoice over its acquisition with PowerReviews, which was ultimately found to be unlawful by the regulator.
The DOJ announced Wednesday it had submitted a proposal to the court to address the dispute following the court’s January decision that back the DOJ’s case against Bazaarvoice.
Reports say the DOJ is looking to have Bazaarvoice divest all PowerReviews assets, as well as extra assets to compensate for lost PowerReviews business and harmed competition.
The DOJ’s antitrust head Bill Baer said in the filing that the “unlawful acquisition of PowerReviews has deprived customers of the benefits of competition for 20 months.”
While Bazaarvoice’s buyout of its closest rival was not required to be notified to regulators, the DOJ soon opened an investigation into the transaction after its closure.
