US: DOJ wants more information on CA sale

The US Justice Department has requested more information including documents from Gannett Co. Inc. and Journal Media Group Inc. about Gannett’s proposed acquisition of the newspaper chain that includes the Memphis Commercial Appeal.

    Both companies announced the second request for information Friday, Nov. 20.

    The transaction, announced in October, is subject to antitrust clearance by the Justice Department. And Journal Media shareholders must also approve the sale before the deal can close.

    The two companies expect to close the transaction in the first quarter of 2016.
