US: Ex-FTC official joins controversial firm’s compliance board

A former official at the Federal Trade Commission has reportedly been hired by controversial weight loss company Herbalife as the company’s chief compliance officer.

    Herbalife, which was once itself the subject of an FTC investigation, announced that Pamela Jones Harbour will join the company. Harbour served at the FTC from 2003 to 2010 as commissioner and senior vice president of global member compliance and privacy. At Herbalife, the official will head a 300-member compliance team that tracks the company’s alignment with regulations, including antitrust law.

    According to reports, Herbalife was under investigation by the FTC over allegations it was acting as a pyramid scheme, allegations which the company denies.
