US: FTC antitrust committee continues price-fixing fight

The head of the Judiciary Antitrust Subcommittee Senator Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) along with ranking member Mike Lee (R-UT) held a hearing Thursday to continue discussions on current federal efforts against price-fixing.

    According to reports, the hearing questioned various members of the US Department of Justice, Federal Bureau of Justice and other economic experts to examine the effectiveness of current competition law against price-fixing cartels in the nation. The hearing also looked at consumer and economic impact of price manipulation.

    Among the witnesses were DOJ Assistant Attorney General William Baer as well as Christopher B. Hockett of the American Bar Association Section on Antitrust Law.
