US: FTC clears Facebook’s sky-high buyout for WhatsApp

The Federal Trade Commission has reportedly cleared Facebook’s acquisition of mobile messing service WhatsApp, a deal that made headlines for its staggering price tag.

    The FTC approved of the $19 billion buyout on the condition that the companies maintain user privacy commitments, say reports. The FTC reportedly sent a letter to the firms last Thursday.

    Among those privacy commitments includes a vow by WhatsApp to not use customer information for targeted advertisements.

    The merger remains subject to regulatory clearance in the EU, Facebook said in a statement.
