US: Republican says antitrust law overhaul may solve Net Neutrality debate

House Judiciary Committee Chairman Bob Goodlatte (R, Virginia) said on Wednesday, November 1, that he is willing to overhaul US antitrust laws in order to resolve the Net Neutrality debate.

    Goodlatte’s comment came in response to the Federal Communications Commission proposal to overturn Obama-era internet regulations.

    At a hearing on Wednesday, Goodlatte said, “In my experience, regulation generally stifles, rather than facilitates, competition and innovation. That is not to say that we should stand by and allow companies to engage in discriminatory or anticompetitive activities. Ultimately, I am open to the idea of amending the antitrust laws, if necessary, to account for the characteristics of the internet.”
