US: Morgan Lewis adds former DOJ assistant chief to antitrust team

Morgan Lewis welcomed Ryan M. Kantor, former assistant chief of the US Department of Justice’s (DOJ) Antitrust Division, Healthcare and Consumer Products Section, as a partner. He will be resident in the firm’s Washington, D.C., office.

At the DOJ, Mr. Kantor oversaw antitrust investigations and enforcement actions involving healthcare, insurance, consumer products, and other sectors. He led or supervised some of the Antitrust Division’s largest and most important investigations, lawsuits, and enforcement actions in a wide variety of industries.

“Ryan’s arrival deepens our capabilities to serve clients with respect to government antitrust enforcement matters and private litigation,” said Firm Chair Jami McKeon. “His high-level work at the DOJ makes him an ideal addition to our elite antitrust practice.”

Mr. Kantor has an extensive background in civil merger and non-merger investigations and litigation. He joined the DOJ as a trial lawyer in 2007 after working in private practice for global law firms. As assistant chief of the Antitrust Division’s Healthcare and Consumer Products Section, he managed more than two dozen lawyers who were responsible for investigating and prosecuting merger and non-merger antitrust matters in the healthcare, retail, consumer products, and pulp and timber sectors. He also worked extensively on matters relating to the telecommunications and technology industries.

During his tenure at the DOJ, he earned the Attorney General’s Distinguished Service Award (the department’s second highest performance award) and three Assistant Attorney General Awards (the Antitrust Division’s top performance award).
