As Army Corps of Engineers program manager Kerry Khan approaches his July deadline for bid-rigging in what prosecutors said is the largest bid-rigging scandal of all-time in federal contracting, new details have emerged about the case. Khan pleaded guilty to bid-rigging charges – among other charges – last May. While federal protocol recommends at least 21 years behind bars, court documents reveal prosecutors are suggesting just over 15 years as well as a $32.5 million restitution fee. While Khan’s lawyer declined to comment on the matter, prosecutors cited Khan’s “substantial assistance” following his arrest for the suggested sentencing. Reports say that Khan, who was found to have made more than $30 million with colleagues in bid-rigging and bribes over about five years, was planning an even larger bid-rigging scam with a contract worth almost $1 billion. Khan was arrested in October 2011.
