The National Collegiate Athletic Association has reportedly filed motions in efforts to delay a looming antitrust trial against the group that accuses the NCAA of price-fixing to keep athlete compensation down.
According to reports, the NCAA has filed several motions, including claims against the judge assigned to the case, ahead of the June 9 trial date.
The NCAA has also tried to delay the trial by requesting appeals of earlier decisions by US District Judge Claudia Wilken, including a request to reconsider the ability of the NCAA to use the defense that money gained by some sports is used to fund smaller sports and women’s athletics. Further, the group has also reportedly asked permission to appeal Judge Wilken’s class certification of the plaintiffs.
The lawsuit was filed by former UCLA basketball player Ed O’Bannon; others have joined the suit against the NCAA regarding athlete compensation.
